Today was the first official long run for me. The group has been running for 2 weeks. I have been nervous all week about running 3 1/2 miles. When I arrived at practice I learned that I wouldn't be running 3 1/2 miles. We would be running 5 3/4 miles!
Throughout the training we will have "Mission Runs" where the local heroes (Central Texans who are going through treatment or are survivors of blood cancers) come out and speak to us. Today was a Mission Run. It was really nice. Carol, a Myeloma survivor, and Tom, a survivor of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, spoke about their diagnoses and treatments. It was motivating, especially to hear that Tom, who is the same age as me, is running in an Ironman Triathlon in October.
It was a nice run. I finished in an hour and 15 minutes. Not too bad, but will hopefully improve!
